Houthi attacks have expanded Yemen’s conflict into Saudi civilian and economic infrastructure, including airports in Abha and Riyadh, causing deaths, injuries, flight disruptions and broader security concerns. The Houthis frame the strikes as retaliation for Saudi-led military operations and the blockade of Yemen, while Saudi Arabia has responded with airstrikes against Houthi targets and support for Yemen’s government forces. The attacks have also accelerated Riyadh’s effort to build a regional defensive front with Pakistan and Türkiye, whose pact treats an assault on one member as an attack on all and provides for rapidly deployed forces and capabilities. The central stakes are civilian safety, protection of vital transport and energy facilities, deterrence, and the risk that outside military involvement could widen the war.
