Frontier AI funding is entering a valuation reset as investors reassess whether extraordinary spending on computing, data centers and model development can produce profits soon enough. OpenAI has reduced its fundraising target from $30 billion to about $20 billion and lowered its proposed valuation to $1.25 trillion, while Anthropic’s planned public listing will expose the sector’s sharply rising revenue alongside enormous reported losses and heavy infrastructure costs. A technology-stock sell-off, intensified by disappointing signals from major companies and chipmakers, has made investors less willing to fund AI growth at any price. The central issue is whether strong demand for AI services can translate into sustainable margins before capital requirements overwhelm confidence, with private funding terms, public-market valuations and the pace of industry expansion still at stake.
