Cyclone Murasu struck Andhra Pradesh’s coast after a period of heightened storm activity, making landfall near Ongole with winds of up to 120 kmph, heavy rain and flooding. The disaster damaged standing crops, horticultural land, homes, roads, power infrastructure, boats and fishing equipment across coastal and inland districts, while authorities evacuated thousands and continued relief operations after the storm weakened. Agriculture and fishing communities face major income losses, with official assessments running into thousands of crores and affecting large numbers of farmers. The cyclone also exposed the region’s vulnerability to successive severe storms, saturated ground and disrupted infrastructure. Recovery depends on restoring transport and electricity, assessing losses after floodwaters recede, supporting affected households and preventing further weather-related harm.
