Cyclone Arnab is a strengthening Bay of Bengal system threatening coastal Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha with a possible landfall near the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coast between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam. Forecasts indicate a very severe cyclone could bring winds of 115 to 125 kmph, gusting up to 140 kmph, alongside extremely heavy rain, storm surges, flooding and landslides. The main risks extend beyond the projected landfall area, affecting districts across both states as well as parts of Telangana and nearby regions. Authorities are preparing shelters, evacuations, warnings and other emergency measures, while the storm’s precise track, intensity and impacts remain the central uncertainties. Disruption to coastal communities, transport, infrastructure and livelihoods remains at stake.
