Surging demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure is reshaping the memory-chip market, as data centers absorb scarce high-bandwidth memory and related components. Micron, Samsung, SK hynix, Nvidia, TSMC and other industry players are competing to secure capacity, refine specialized designs and support increasingly complex AI systems, while suppliers shift production away from consumer electronics. The resulting shortages and higher costs are spreading to smartphones and personal computers, forcing manufacturers to raise prices, absorb expenses or reduce shipments. The imbalance is strengthening memory makers and exposing the vulnerability of traditional device markets, with supply constraints expected to persist beyond 2026. The central uncertainty is how quickly production can expand and whether AI demand will continue to justify the industry’s costly reallocation of capacity.
